Oakland Diocese

Diocese of Oakland

OUR MISSION: TO KNOW CHRIST BETTER AND TO MAKE HIM BETTER KNOWN. TOWARD THIS END:

We renew and deepen the celebration of the sacraments in our diocese to stimulate the life of our parishes and revitalize our individual and collective faith.
We provide formation that brings about in all Catholics such a joy and enthusiasm for their faith in Jesus Christ that they live it and freely share it with others.
We develop and sustain effective and healthy pastoral leadership for clergy, lay ecclesial ministers and laity to build up and serve the Body of Christ in Oakland.
We welcome, encourage and engage young people in all aspects of church life to empower them to become disciples of Jesus Christ in today's world.
We become good stewards and live a lifetime journey of discipleship to grow in holiness.

The Most Reverend Salvatore J. Cordileone
Bishop of Oakland

Pauline Books and Media

For over 75 years Pauline Books and Media has been a vital part of the mission of the Daughters of St. Paul in North America.

The Daughters of St. Paul and the employees of Pauline Books & Media are called to offer a fruitful announcement of the Word of salvation in the midst of the challenges in the present changing social-cultural and ecclesial context so that every man and woman of good will can encounter the Word that saves: Christ the Master, Way, Truth and Life. The Pauline Mission in the US is comprised of Pauline Books and Media Publishing House, music recording studio, radio studios, art studios, photo studios, 15 Pauline Books and MediaCenters in the US and English-Speaking Canada, the Center for Media Studies in Culver City, CA, and JClub.

The Pauline mission is a new form of evangelization in the Church: Blessed James Alberione, founder of the Daughters of St. Paul, saw it as “written preaching” alongside the oral preaching that characterizes the ministry of the priest. The quality of the sisters’ faith, a gift received from the infinite goodness of God, is expressed in Pauline productions and mission.

Pauline Books and Media seeks to serve individuals with their personal and spiritual needs as well as create a new imprint on society: “forming a new mentality in society, giving it a new direction…transforming and sanctifying laws, governments, entertainment, education…every aspect of individual and social life” (Blessed James Alberione).

Young Adults often find themselves standing on the edge between adult responsibility and teen impulsiveness.

We find ourselves at times watching the waves go by, our feet stuck in the sand of our jobs, school, finances, and relationships. Other times we jump right in and try to surf our way through life, usually enjoying the ride, but sometimes getting caught in the riptide and ending up where we did not want to be.

The Catholic Church is the source and summit we can always return to. The Church always offers us forgiveness and welcomes us back. The Church also offers resources for us and ways to be involved in parish life and beyond. It is up to us to knock and allow the door to be opened.

This website will serve as a resource for young adults to knock on, to seek, and to receive the support and resources they need.

Universalis

The Liturgy of the Hours (also known as the Divine Office) is the richest single prayer resource of the Christian Church. It provides prayers, psalms and meditation for every hour of every day. It has existed from the earliest times, to fulfil the Lord's command to pray without ceasing.
